MASHA REVA x SYNDICATE’s ‘Botanical Layers’, a headturning collaboration to look out for!

If you’re on the topic of something cheeky, artistic, quirky or even, surrealistic for the matter ala Salvador Dali, you’re in the right company with Ukrainian designer MASHA REVA‘s latest collaboration with Russian brand SYNDICATE.

You see, times have changed whereby we are so exposed to the internet, from all matters that happen around the world to the fact that we get to put forth our two-cents worth on every news forum. Of course, the chief culprit of it all being Facebook (you and I both know how opinions on every single situations are being raved and discussed about on Facebook on a viral high).

On that fact alone, I’d dare say we are pretty much aware and observant of many things, and to sum it up, we have seen it all. So you would ask, what’s there that we didn’t see?

Precisely, what else did we not see? We have seen fashion in art many countless times, as designers and artists from these fields merge mediums and do crossovers. But what we actually have not seen is someone who has merges not just art with fashion, but a whole lot of technological theories and even, philosophical perspective of life in a storytelling mode. It really is something like a natural for Masha Reva.

Looking at her works indeed channel you to another dimension, a dreamscape probably, that only the most artistic takes flight. And that is, without a singular doubt, a work of a genius.

You see, when we first spotted her Merging 2012 collection a few months ago, her works actually spurred us to create our monthly ‘Artist of the Month’ feature section, from which we even kick-started the ‘Designer of the Month’ section. It may sound little but it was really a huge step that we took (with risks involved too). Till this very day, we have never regretted our decision and we are actually very happy that Masha Reva, a truly deserving artist, was our debut ‘Artist of the Month’.

Fast forward to present moment, what we have is a stellar collaboration. Titled “Botanical Layers“, it is as the name suggests, everything that has to do with botany and plants. You might think this is like a trip back to your biology lessons, but I can tell you, it is most definitely not.

With Masha Reva, you would always have to think deeper because things just always get so philosophical for her.

Delving on a rather controversial topic, the collaborative collection, which feature a range of original prints on limited edition sweat shirts, fuses the concept of how with the 21st Century condition of social networks (you have our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and many, many more!), technology and rapid-paced lives has overwhelmed us, and in return, we hunger and yearn for a life of natural environment and greenery.

What really piques our minds is the fact that the technological advances are still inescapable in her designs, as elements of technology still creep onto the lush plants and flower motifs. There, you will notice faint hints of photoshop layers and loading bars coinciding and blending with the leaves – of which you would be able to identify them instantaneously.

It’s almost like hinting that high-technology, no matter how you try to rid it off, is here to stay long-term, as seen on the digitally enhanced prints on these raglan-sleeved beauties.

Knowing what a sucker we are for all things cheeky and tickle our pores, we are up for this one collaborative collection! And need we say, we are still very awestrucked by those insanely sculptural eyewear which she has used for this collection!
